As we discussed in the book, being a Nonprofit Imagineer means keeping an eye on the details that make your story come alive for your donors and members. We must constantly be reminding our supporters why they fell in love with your organization, and why they should continue to support you.
With that in mind, here are 10 ideas to wrap up the Summer “chapter” for your story, and prepare for your Fall.
1. Shine a Light on Success Stories:
- Highlight impactful stories from your summer campaigns. Create visually appealing case studies or short videos to share on social media and your website.
2. Host a “Gratitude BBQ” Event:
- Invite donors and volunteers to a fun summer-themed event to express your appreciation. Use this opportunity to strengthen relationships and discuss future involvement. Not all in one place? Invite supporters around the country to a virtual BBQ. If they are major donors, consider sending a meal delivery to their home. Smaller supporters might be invited to prepare their own meal and join you for online entertainment or a summer awards ceremony.
3. Plan a “Back to School” Campaign:
- Design a creative fundraising campaign centered around the start of the school year. Emphasize the importance of education and how your nonprofit supports it.
4. #GivingTuesday Prep:
- Start brainstorming and outlining your #GivingTuesday campaign early. Craft compelling messages and design eye-catching visuals to make your cause stand out. November will be here before you know it!
5. Segment and Personalize Your Donor Lists:
- Use summer data to segment your donor lists. Tailor your communications based on donor interests, past giving history, or engagement level for more effective outreach.
6. Hold a Virtual Summer Recap and Fall Blue Sky Meeting:
- Gather your team to review summer fundraising efforts. Discuss what worked, what didn’t, how those ideas can be “plussed” next time around, and brainstorm ideas for the upcoming fall season. Need brainstorming tips? Visit our Member Resource Section for worksheets and instructions.
7. Create an Impactful Video Story:
- Produce a heartwarming video highlighting the impact of your summer fundraising. Use this as a tool to engage potential donors and volunteers.
8. Collaborate with Local Businesses:
- Partner with local businesses for co-promotional opportunities. Consider hosting a charity event or campaign together to boost your nonprofit’s visibility.
9. Reevaluate Your Fundraising Goals:
- Assess your summer fundraising performance and adjust your fall fundraising goals accordingly. Set SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) objectives.
10. Revamp Your Website and Social Media:
- Give your online presence a fresh look. Update your website with summer highlights and teaser content for fall. Prepare engaging social media posts in advance for a seamless transition into the new season.
Remember that successful fundraising involves building relationships, storytelling, and creativity. Tailor these checklist items to your nonprofit’s unique mission and donor base to make a lasting impact as you transition from summer to fall fundraising.
